1. GIVE YOURSELF TIME
Your journey doesn’t end simply because breast cancer treatment is over. It takes time to create a new normal and it’s important to take things one day at a time. Do make an effort to do things that bring you joy. It can take years to feel normal again.
2. STAY PHYSICALLY ACTIVE - EXERCISE
Be mindful that timelines for exercise may vary depending on what treatment you received. Ask your doctor for recommendations. Recent studies do show that exercise does have increased benefits. It is shown to have a positive impact on moods, anxiety reduction, fatigue, strength and one's quality of life.
Residual & Hormonal Effects
It is also quite common to have some residual effects (lymphedema, neuropathy, fatigue, hot flashes, etc.), resulting from treatment types and your body's responses to them both emotionally and physically.
3. FIND SUPPORT
If you find yourself struggling during and after treatment with the need to develop healthy coping mechanisms. Consult your doctor or a mental health professional to learn what support services are available to you.
If you would like to connect with other survivors join a support group. Support groups are excellent places to gather and share information. While there are many Facebook support groups and breast cancer apps, we find that most survivors ultimately desire to connect with services that have a visual median whether it be Zoom or social media lives. We too offer an array of supportive services and options for connecting virtually. However, every individual must find what works best for them.
