Antoinette Greer - CEO

Antoinette Greer

Antoinette is a native of Los Angeles the ninth child of twelve children who grew up in the inner city's Watts-Willowbrook area. She is a breast cancer survivor and Co-Founder of My Sister My Friend Breast Cancer Support. Seventeen years into pursuing her career at the U.S. Postal Service, she was diagnosed at age 40 with Stage 3B breast cancer. She underwent a modified radical mastectomy, six months of chemotherapy and twenty-six radiation treatments with another adjuvant therapy prescribed for five years. It was during this time that she learned that women in her community faced marginal challenges in areas such as: access to care, treatment delays, financial toxicity, cultural competence, and overall survival of the disease.

One year post treatment, she gathered together with three other survivors and formed a grassroots affiliate chapter of a National African American survivorship organization (Sisters Network) recognized for helping women battling breast cancer in their communities. During this tenure, she sought to take charge of the needs of these women by addressing disparities that directly impact access to care, the continuum of care and treatment completion. That these women might recover and re-enter the mainstream following treatment. Spearheading a program entitled, "The Peer Professional", which includes culturally competent professional services. This program differs from other African American peer-led support groups in that it offers both peer and professional counselors and serves to meet specific individual and basic needs, bridging critical care gaps and availing safety-net resources, social workers and wrap-around supportive services.
